Alternative title: “How to look festive when you hate Winter”. I think you’ll all agree, Winter is the worst. The first snow is beautiful, hot chocolate is delicious, seeing family for the Holidays is great. Then the snow gets dirty, everything’s wet, and it’s cold all the time. Now that suede and all of the rest of the fabrics of Fall are safely hidden away, the question arises: “What to wear?” “It’s not that hard, just put on some red and green!” my Mother declared. But can you look festive and fashionable at the same time? My go-to accessory for this time of year is the scarf (le foulard). Honestly, with a good coat and a fabulous scarf, you can make it through almost any drab winter day. Believe it or not, I picked this paisley pashmina up at a kiosk at the mall in Windsor years ago! While during the summer I tend to opt for smaller, silkier twillies, an Ottawa winter demands something a little different…Regardless of the season though, I think that a patterned scarf is the way to go. Pick something in a bright colour with a bold print. The fashion world is loving paisley right now (and so I am), so there will be beautiful paisley printed scarves in a multitude of colours wherever you choose to shop. And remember, your scarf doesn’t have to match your shirt- mix your prints and your colours! In short: adding a scarf to your winter look will not only keep you warm, but will also keep you fabulous until Spring.

Do you have a favourite Winter accessory?
